THE PROJECT

BIANS received funding from the Nova Scotia Department of  Health to identify a client-centered approach to service development and employment strategies for persons with brain injury in Nova Scotia.

The planning for this project began in November 2005 and we are pleased to invite survivors, family members, caregivers, and professionals to assist us in our efforts to determine the needs of persons with brain injury and put forward a client-centered approach for service development.

Our goal for this project is:

To identify a comprehensive client-centered approach to service development, specifically targeting employability, and based on determinants of health.

We will seek to meet this goal by:

  • Identifying statistical data that will provide a foundation to quantify the extent and influence of brain injury on the health and social systems in Nova Scotia
  • Undertaking a comprehensive needs assessment with input from brain injury survivors, families and support caregivers, and professionals from various disciplines to provide qualitative information
  • Researching the success of current practices, and identify and document Best Practices for employability programs for persons with brain injury, leading to the development of a model for employability for persons with brain injury
  • Identifying gaps in service capacity
  • Recommending an implementation strategy to reduce or delete the gaps

An advisory committee made up of professionals, family members, survivors, and BIANS representatives oversee the planning of this project.  Their knowledge, insight, and everyday experiences in dealing with brain injury provide valuable information and guidance for this project.  Their passion and dedication to this project are much appreciated by BIANS.
